Mission
We are committed to the development and delivery of a comprehensive, integrated system of services, which has as its primary purpose the promotion and attainment of independence, inclusion, individuality and productivity for adults with autism. We are also involved in opportunities for some of these people to successfully join the work force.
We continue to commit ourselves to programs for autistic adults in one existing Intermediate Care Facility (ICF), one Individualized Support Services (ISS), one non-24 hour Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) for four adults and one IRA for an adult in Manhattan. All programs are committed to individual services for each person in our homes and work programs. We also are committed to our Day Habilitation programs which require great scrutiny as each person although similar, each person is different. Our In-Home programs will continue to help those autistic people being served to maintain learned skills by reinforcement and provide trained staff to teach new skills. In other words, select and on-going activities for all of our consumers. We are also giving case management services to parents offering guidance and all kinds of assistance. We are involved in arts and entertainment programs to provide inclusion for our consumers into theater and special events so that they may enjoy the same activities as anybody else.
It is also our intention to expand all services to meet specific and desperate needs. We are involved in developing model programs and a staff training manual for the future and for copyright publication for Special Citizens. This manual will include all regulatory services required as well as individual in-depth training on the many varieties of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. As the numbers have exploded, according to the government we intend to beef up all of our plans for the future. Hardly a week goes by without reports from newspapers, magazines and television about the explosion in numbers of the autism spectrum. Appropriate programs are simply not available and we believe the nation is not ready to understand and properly service the wide variety of people under the autism umbrella. Whatever we can do to increase practical knowledge about serving this population is desperately needed.
Another mandatory service is outreach to parents, both new and those whose children have reached the threshold at age 21 as services disappear. We also must provide younger autistic people with adjunctive services as needed. We must reach out as well to provide service coordination links to other families needing all kinds of service before and after school age. While we are filling in with the In-Home and Day-Habilitation services, we know that the long range needs must be residential and work and day programs to help autistic people enjoy the decent kind of life they deserve. Our mission includes any and every kind of service that meets the needs of autistic people which will make families more secure recognizing that no one lives forever and plans must be made for the futures of their children.
We hope to increase funding sources from the private sector as well as reaching out to the general public to inform them more about the many faces of autism and hopefully increase their interest in understanding and availing themselves of positive information. Our ultimate mission is to provide and expand all the aforementioned services.
